The bow echo event on 5-6 July, 2003 represents a classic nocturnal bow echo that produced a damage swath nearly 200 km in length from Columbus, NE to western IA. Extensive ground and aerial damage surveys by R. Wakimoto (UCLA) and N. Atkins (LSC) were performed a few days after the occurrence of this event. Considerable damage was uncovered in Omaha, NE. While smaller-scale areas of more intense F1 damage were uncovered in Omaha and to the northeast of town, there was no evidence that they were produced by embedded tornadoes. (damage analysis by R. Wakimoto [UCLA]) |
