During mid-late afternoon on 4 July, 2003, convection exploded in a highly unstable environment over northern Illinois that subsequently organized into a severe bow echo as it raced southeastward into Indiana.  An extensive ground survey of this event revealed pockets of F1 wind damage, consistent with 80+ knot surface wind reports in the LSRs.
