A mature bow-shaped that formed over
Wisconsin moved southward over the greater Chicago area. The bow echo
produced damage in many of the western Chicago suburbs and southward to
the town of Kankakee, IL. The initial LSRs noted both tornado and
straight-line wind damage associated with this system, however, extensive
ground and aerial surveys found no evidence of tornado damage and isolated
areas of straight-line wind damage. The greatest damage appeared to be in
the town of Kankakee. Numerous trees were blown over in the western part
of town and a couple of tractor-trailers were blown over. Overall, the
extent of straight-line wind damage appeared to be less than the LSRs
suggested. |
