Late in the evening, two separate bow echoes formed over east central NE. The two convective systems eventually merged over SE NE and moved into Missouri early in the morning on the 10th. The first system appeared from an HP supercell into a bow echo WNW of the town of Shelby, NE. Detailed ground and aerial damage surveys uncovered a damage swath 30 km in length of F0 and embedded F1 damage. Many irrigation sprinkler systems were overturned one or even two times by the system. Many farm structures were damaged along with a number of trees being blown over. The second bow echo formed approximately 30 km NW of Emerson, NE and subsequently propagated through and SE of Emerson. The damage swath length was approximately 40 km. All damage with this event was rated F0, though some of the damage near Emerson appeared to be high F0, low F1 in severity. Similar to the Shelby event, numerous irrigation systems were blown over along with farm sheds and trees. |
