During mid-afternoon on 10 June, 2003, an area of convection developed over west-central MO. The convection strengthened as it moved eastward towards the Saint Louis area. By 2200 UTC, a well-defined bow echo was observed approximately 100 km to the southwest of St. Louis. This bow echo produced F0 damage by blowing over a number of trees. A second bow echo formed just to the east of St. Louis and produced a well-defined damage swath approximately 80 km in length. This bow echo traversed directly over the BAMEX Operations Center where a 90 kt wind gust was measured. In addition to the primary damage swath generated by straight-line winds, a total of six tornado tracks were uncovered in the ground and aerial damage surveys that were F0-F1 in intensity. |
