Near Infrared Channel - 3.84-4.06 (3.9)

3.9 microns.  This channel actually observes both visible and IR data.  It has many important applications which we will discuss later.  Notice that most of the IR radiation reaching the satellite in this channel originates near the earth' surface.

Weighting Function - At 3.9 microns, note that most of the radiation observed at the top of the atmosphere originates close to the earth's surface.  Compare this weighting function with the 10.7 micron channel.
