LSC Northeast Kingdom Forecast Student Meteorologist: Steve Breault Forecast Posted on Friday Oct 30, 2009 06:09 ** The latest forecast for Northeastern Vermont ** ** including Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex Counties ** Forecast Discussion: Patchy fog and low clouds have developed this morning in response to the temperature dropping down to the dewpoint. As the morning progresses, we should see a gradual rise in the temperature and the low cloudiness should burn off. With high pressure off the New England coast, and an area of low pressure over the nation's mid-section, a warmer southerly flow will develop through Saturday afternoon. In the meantime, high clouds associated with that storm system are currently located across the Great Lakes, extending southward through portions of the Ohio and Mississippi Valleys. These clouds are going to be on the increase across the Northeast Kingdom through this afternoon and headed into the evening hours on Friday. The clouds will thicken and lower along with an increase in the winds heading into Friday night as the cold front associated with the storm system slowly crawls eastward. The storm system itself becomes an intense area of low pressure but it will pass us to the north as it heads towards the James Bay region of Quebec. Nonetheless, it is an intense system and we are expecting the winds to pick up considerably Friday night through Saturday. The cold front crosses the region early Saturday afternoon. Prior to its arrival, showers will be flying across the region. If you take a look at the sky Saturday afternoon you will really see those low clouds moving fast along with those high winds. Saturday night the winds begin to taper down and might even have some partial clearing late. Things become more mundane Sunday as the wind shuts off under mostly cloudy skies and seasonable temperatures. Friday Afternoon (Oct 30, 2009) After the morning fog and low clouds burn off expect mostly sunny conditions. Increasing high clouds through late afternoon. Highs in mid 50s with a light south wind. High: 52-57F Low: F Friday Night (Oct 30, 2009) Cloudy and windy. South winds will be 10 mph gusting to near 30 mph at times. Early lows 43-48 around midnight will slowly rise to around 50 by dawn. High: F Low: 43-48F Saturday Afternoon (Oct 31, 2009) Cloudy with rain showers arriving early in the afternoon. I expect them to be east of the area by dusk, just in time for Halloween! Remaining windy though with south winds 10-15 mph with gusts to 30, turning southwest late in the afternoon. Highs will be in the lower 60s, but should drop to the lower 50s by the early evening.Total rain expected between 0.10"-0.25". High: 60-65F Low: F Saturday Night (Oct 31, 2009) Partial clearing late. Winds will begin to relax a little as they switch west 5-10 mph, possibly gusting at times up to 20. Lows will range around 40. High: F Low: 37-42F Sunday Afternoon (Nov 01, 2009) Mostly cloudy. Highs will be noticeably cooler, but seasonable in the upper 40s. Winds will be from the west around 5 mph early, becoming calm by late in the day. High: 46-51F Low: F Next Update: By 8PM tonight
