LSC Northeast Kingdom Forecast Student Meteorologist: Steve Breault Forecast Posted on Friday Oct 16, 2009 19:31 ** The latest forecast for Northeastern Vermont ** ** including Caledonia, Orleans, and Essex Counties ** Forecast Discussion: The feel of fall has certainly been feeling a bit more like winter as of the past few days. In the coming days, it might start to look more like winter as well! A storm system that has brushed southern New England with rain and snow is currently exiting off the eastern New England coast. Meanwhile, chilly high pressure located in central Quebec is helping to keep us mostly clear in northern New England. Another coastal storm system develops during the day on Saturday. This one will move northeast. By Saturday night the storm will begin to approach and it will remain cloudy. I am a little less confident about precipitation as I was earlier, and the latest data suggests that any precipitation wouldn't begin until Sunday morning at the earliest. If precipitation is able to make it into the Northeast Kingdom for Sunday morning, it appears the atmosphere would be cold enough to support snow at this time. By Sunday afternoon, temperatures will warm up just enough to transition any light snow over to light rain, except in the higher elevations where light snow might continue. This storm could also linger around through Monday morning. At the very least, it will provide a gray end to our weekend. At the worst, we might be contending with a light accumulation under 3 inches. I am forecasting a "middle of the road" solution, with light snow and rain showers around Sunday into Sunday night with little or no accumulation. Friday Night (Oct 16, 2009) Decided to lower temperatures slightly from the last forecast due to the lack of insolation that some cloud cover would have provided. However, high clouds should begin to filter in late. Lows in the lower 20s with calm winds. High: F Low: 20-25F Saturday Afternoon (Oct 17, 2009) More sunshine expected tomorrow versus earlier due to the coastal storm being delayed as it moves northward. Highs in the mid 40s with a northeast wind around 5 mph. High: 43-48F Low: F Saturday Night (Oct 17, 2009) Becomming cloudy. Lows in the upper 20s. East wind around 5 mph. High: F Low: 25-30F Sunday Afternoon (Oct 18, 2009) A cloudy day. Any snow showers in the morning will likely transition to a mix of rain and snow showers. All snow showers can be expected in the higher elevations above about 2000 feet. Highs near 40. Light east wind 5 10 mph. No accumulation expected at this time, except an inch is possible on the higher elevations. High: 38-43F Low: F Monday Afternoon (Oct 19, 2009) Mostly sunny. Highs in the upper 40s. Light northerly winds around 5 mph. High: 45-50F Low: F Next Update: Monday before 3PM
