BackgroundThe Norman Sebastian Scholarship in Meteorology is named for a 1979 LSC Meteorology Department alumnus. Norm enjoyed a successful career on The Weather Channel and as the chief meteorologist at WNYT in Albany, New York. Norm prided himself on his reputation as a broadcaster who had a sharp wit and recognized the importance of providing viewers with high quality weather forecasts which were presented in a professional, but approachable, manner. He grew up on a dairy farm in Preson, NY, and was outgoing and friendly, with high energy and a very positive outlook on life. Norm passed away in 2000 and in 2001 his family, friends, LSC Meteorology alumni, employment colleagues, and loyal viewers established this scholarship in honor of his memory.Criteria and AwardThe scholarship is awarded annually to a meteorology major that will be starting their first year of study at LSC in the fall. Norm Sebastian Scholarship in Meteorology The search committee will obtain the transcript and financial aid forms. Deadline for receipt of the essay by the chairperson is March 15. The recipient will be announced in late spring via surface mail. Obligations of RecipientsThe recipient must attend LSC as a full-time student in the BS Meteorology degree program in the fall of the year application is made, be present at the fall awards ceremony to receive recognition, and send written acknowledgement/appreciation of the scholarship to the Chairperson of the LSC Meteorology Department for forwarding to Norm's family by October 1.
