Attenuation

• Is the reduction of a signal as it propagates through a medium
• Affect of Attenuation:
  • storm maximum will be degraded
  • max will appear closer to the radar
  • Notch will form in reflectivity
• Attenuation is caused by:
  • gases (H20, O2, etc; small effect at our met. wavelengths)
  • particles
  • precipitation
