THE "GREAT OCTOBER 1997 SNOW STORM"


This lab is designed to analyze the snow storm which paralyzed much of the Great Plains and Mid West during late October of 1997.  The lab focusses on profiler data collected by the Demonstration Network.  The lab assignment and data are given below.  


LAB ASSIGNMENT

For each of the profiler images given below:

1)  Match the profiler image to where the data was likely obtained.  Use the map of profiler sites given below.  Base your match on where the observed profiler data should be relative to the "great" snow storm.  What is shown physically in the data should match where you locate the profile.

2)  Provide a brief description of what is physically shown in each profiler image relative to the storm (e.g., fronts, jets, advection processes, etc.) and how they are evolving.
