Surface Analysis of a Severe Weather Environment
Lab Overview:
The purpose of this lab is to give you some appreciation of how challenging it can be to perform a surface analysis in an environment with active severe convection. You will need to examine many different data sets to perform the analysis.
The event in question occurred on 29 June 1998. It was a long-lived bow echo.
1. Print out the following maps:
A surface map for this day at 12 Z can be found here.
2. Now, perform a frontal analysis on the 2015 UTC satellite image with surface overlay. Draw in the locations of all boundaries that are present.
It will also be useful to examine the radar data for this case. You can find the level II data at: /mnt/homes/CLASSES/29june98/dvn and /mnt/homes/CLASSES/29june98/ilx.
