Meteorological Scales

• In other courses like Dynamics and A&F, you will focus on global, synoptic, and even some mesoscale phenomena
• In this course however, we will focus on the microscale portion of the meteorological spectrum, i.e., those phenomena with spatial scales between approximately 2 mm and 2 km and with temporal scales between a few seconds up to a couple of hours.
• Note that all these scales of motion are inter related: energy transfers or cascades from the larger scale to the smaller scales, eventually dissipating as turbulence.
