Forecasting High and Low Temperatures
Lab Objectives:
To gain some experience forecasting high and low temperatures
ASSIGNMENT:
From the AVN, ETA, and NGM models, create a table of their predicted low and high temperatures for the next two days at St. Johnsbury.
Now using the model data, all observed data, and your knowledge of processes that affect temperature, make a forecast for the high and low temperature at St. Johnsbury for the next two days.
Explain the rationale behind your forecast. What data did you consider to be important?
When making your forecast, here are some issues to consider:
What does the large-scale pattern look like? Is it changing?
Are there any short waves and attendant fronts moving through the area?
Are there any clouds? Will there be clouds during the forecast period? What about winds?
Are the 1000-500 mb thicknesses changing? If so why and how will they affect high and low temps?
