Frontal Analysis and Structure

Lab Objectives:

• To learn how to identify and analyze fronts on surface weather maps

ASSIGNMENT:

1. Do questions 7, 8, 10, 18, and 19 in your lab manual (beginning of pg. 112).

2. create a surface weather map for 15 Z today over the United States and southern Canada.  Plot temperature, dew point, winds, pressure and pressure tendency along with clouds.  Print out a color post script version of this graphic on 11x17 " paper.

   • contour temperature (every 10 degrees - red dashed lines) and pressure (every 4 mb - solid black lines) on your map.  Using your analysis, locate centers of highs and lows along with any fronts that you can identify.
