SURVEY OF METEOROLOGY II LAB #3
Contour/Surface Data Analysis
Lab Objectives:
To refresh your contouring skills
To analyze a surface weather map to find lows and highs along with zones of large temperature change and different air masses.
ASSIGNMENT:
Do question #7 on page 112.
Plot surface data, (METAR and SHIP) over the continental US and southern Canada at 15 Z today. The surface data should only contain cloud cover, winds, pressure and temperature. Make sure that the plot is not overly crowded, yet has enough data to accurately analyze. save the image as a postscript file and print it out.
On this map, analyze the pressure and temperature fields. Use different colors for each. Make sure to use appropriate contour intervals.
Draw in the H's and L's.
Is the wind field consistent with the pressure field? Explain.
On your analyzed map, indicate the different air masses that you see.
