How to give a weather briefing
Lab Objectives:
To learn the basic skills of giving a weather briefing
Weather Briefing Guidelines:
Begin with a 500 mb hemispheric map showing and discussing the positions of longwaves and shortwaves
Show a satellite loop, vis and infrared - large scale and zoomed in to the area of interest
Do a surface analysis - analyze pressure, isallobars, fronts, Hs, and Ls
Do a jet stream analysis - find the polar jet and subtropical jets.
Discuss the METAR data for the last 24 hrs giving the highs, lows, and weather. Show a meteogram.
Discuss the climatological normal values for your city.
Discuss the current sounding for your city.
Make a 12 hr forecast of surface frontal positions using the 500 mb steering flow, isallobars, and trend methods.
Assignment:
