How to give a weather briefing


Lab Objectives:

Weather Briefing Guidelines:

  1. Begin with a 500 mb hemispheric map showing and discussing the positions of longwaves and shortwaves

  2. Show a satellite loop, vis and infrared - large scale and zoomed in to the area of interest

  3. Do a surface analysis - analyze pressure, isallobars, fronts, Hs, and Ls

  4. Do a jet stream analysis - find the polar jet and subtropical jets.

  5. Discuss the METAR data for the last 24 hrs giving the highs, lows, and weather.  Show a meteogram.

  6. Discuss the climatological normal values for your city.

  7. Discuss the current sounding for your city.

  8. Make a 12 hr forecast of surface frontal positions using the 500 mb steering flow, isallobars, and trend methods.
