Policies and Procedures at LSC

There are many policies and procedures here at LSC that you should be aware of.  The complete LSC policy manual can be found at: http://gateway.lsc.vsc.edu/content.php?catoid=5&navoid=61.  The following is a list of common questions that students raise about various aspects of campus life, both academic and non academic:

1. Advisors: 

   • Who is your advisor?

   • Where are they located? 

   • How do you contact them? 

   • When can you see them? 

   • Can you change advisors?  If so, how? 

   • What is the role of the academic advisor?

2. What are your course substitution options?  Are these the same as transferring a course to LSC?

3. How do you add or drop a course?

4. What happens if the degree requirements change after you have started an academic program?

5. How does one go about transferring a course to LSC?  Will a course taken at another VSC institution transfer to LSC?

6. How long is each semester?  How much work is generally expected of you for each hour of class?

7. What is an internship?  When can you do an internship?  How do you go about securing an internship opportunity?  Are they taken for credit?

8. What is an independent study course?  How does one set up an independent study?  Do you get credit for it?

9. What is the LSC class attendance policy?  Does every course adopt this policy?

10. What happens if you are caught cheating in a class?

11. What are the different types of academic standing?

12. What is the gpa for the following grades earned during a given semester: 

    • Calc I:  A

    • Survey of Met: C

    • Survey of Met Lab:  B+

    • Milestones in Science:  A+

    • English 1051:                C-

    • Academic Community:  A-

13. What would the academic standing be for the student who earned the above grades fall semester, freshmen year?  Can you challenge any of the above grades?  If so, how?

14. What determines your class standing (freshmen, sophomore, junior, senior)?

15. How many credits are required to be considered full time?  Why is it important to be considered a full time student?

16. How do you make the Dean's List?

17. What happens if you fail:
